15 towns across Cork County will benefit from investment of over €1.3m under the 2017 Town and Village Renewal Scheme.The announcement was made by the Minister for Rural and Community Development, Michael Ring TD today.
€100,000 has been allocated towards the development of Buttevant Medieval Heritage Trail & River Walk and Milstreet has also been sanctioned €100,000 for the development of a Blueway, Pontoon, Slipway and Carpark. Fermoy was also allocated €100,000 towrds the creation of its own Blueway for their town.
Welcoming the funding for North Cork, Cllr. John Paul O’ Shea said “This is excellent news for Millstreet, Buttevant & Fermoy as these communities have been working with Cork County Council on developing these projects for the last number of months. The delivery of these projects will have a positive bosost to the local economy in North Cork andwill encourage rural development and will improve and strengthen existing rural projects.
In total 281 rural towns and villages across the country will benefit from the scheme which places a particular emphasis on stimulating economic development.
All 15 projects for Towns and Villages across County Cork, that were submitted by Cork County Council to the Department, have been awarded funding totalling over €1.3 million. The Department’s scheme is part of the Government’s Action Plan for Rural Development.
The funding awarded to Cork towns and villages, ranges from €32,000 to €152,000. Full details of allocations are as follows:
