Cork County Council has agreed the purchase of amenity lands from the Sisters of Nazareth (Nazareth House) in Dromahane, Mallow.
The site which is approx. 5.6 acres in size is situated right in the centre of Dromahane village and will be a tremendous asset to the community. Nazareth House and the Sisters of Nazerath have a long association with the community of Dromahane and the disposal of the site to Cork County Council is greatly appreciated.
Cork County Council will now work in partnership with the Dromahane residents to develop the site for amenity and community purposes and will be inviting the local residents to make their views known on the plans for the future use of the site.
Welcoming the purchase, local Cllr. John Paul O’ Shea said “The purchase of these lands from the Sisters of Nazerath is a major development in securing the future potential of the popular and expanding village of Dromahane. Cork County Council has been in negotiations regarding the purchase of lands in the area for some years now and I am glad today, it has finally come to a successful conclusion. Dromahane has seen a significant growth in residential development in recent years; however, there hasn’t been an equal level of growth in the availability or community and recreational facilities. I am delighted the development of such facilities can now proceed in this ever expanding and vibrant village”.
The village of Dromahane is located approximately 6KM west of Mallow and is the largest village within the parish of Kilshannig. Dromahane has experienced a high level of residential development over the last 10 years with the number of houses increasing three fold. This has resulted in a huge increase in population of this quaint village.
Nazareth House which is a residential care home for older people is owned and operated by the Sisters of Nazareth in the heart of Dromahane village. Cllr. O’ Shea added “The management and staff at Nazerath House provide a very caring and comforting atmosphere to ensure that their residents live their lives to their full potential within a relaxing and supportive community. The decision for the Sisters of Nazerath to dispose these lands to Cork County Council for amenity purposes is indeed very much welcome and I know will be appreciated greatly by the community in Dromahane. The Sisters of Nazerath have shown themselves to be very much part of the community in Dromahane over the years, providing local employment and contributing significant to the economic activity in the village and I want to acknowledge their continued commitment today”.
Cllr. O’ Shea concluded “The development of community facilities for the village of Dromahane and its environs has always been a high priority for me and I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved on bringing this to a successful conclusion. I look forward to continuing to work closely with the existing community and voluntary organisations in the area along with organisations such as Avondhu Blackwater Partnership LTD in unlocking the great opportunity that this investment now provides. The main focus will now turn to creating an exciting and energetic plan for the development of the much needed open space and recreational facilities for Dromahane into the future”.
