O’Shea welcomes pathway upgrade plans at St. Lachteen’s Cemetery, Grenagh
Fine Gael Local Election candidate Tony O’Shea has welcomed plans by Cork County Council to carry out footpath works at St. Lachteen’s Cemetery in Grenagh. Mr O’Shea raised locals’ concerns about the condition of the current pathway from the road, up through the old graveyard and to the new graveyard with the Council, which has confirmed that contractors are currently being identified with works to proceed in 2019.
“A number of local people have raised this issue with me in recent weeks; people are concerned by the safety of the pathway which is very uneven, has loose chips on it and become muddy and slippery when wet. The shouldering of coffins from the road can be very dangerous given the uneven and slippery condition of the pathway,” said Mr O’Shea, a candidate in next month’s Local Election in the Mallow Electoral Area.
“I am pleased that Cork County Council has agreed that works are necessary here and that the process of securing a contractor is underway, with works to commence this year. A new pathway will allow proper access to the cemetery for people who wish to visit graves of loved ones and for burials,” he added.
