Six towns and villages within the Kanturk/Mallow Municipal District is to benefit from Cork County Council’s 2017 Footpath Replacement Programme. A total of €1m of funding has been set aside countywide for the footpath programme with almost €120k allocated to the Kanturk/Mallow Municipal District.
Welcoming the allocation of funding to the specific towns and villages, Local Independent Cllr. John Paul O’ Shea said “This announcement is very welcomed news and will go some way in addressing the detoriated and substandard footpaths we currently have in the District. We re-established the dedicated footpath replacement programme in place in 2014 and since then, we can already see the benefits of the programme”.
Footpath replacement works will take place in the following areas during 2017:

Kanturk – Edel Quinn Place: Complete works within estate which commenced last year

Newmarket – Priory Park: Entire length

Newmarket – Scarteen Street: Opposite side to 2016 works

Buttevant – Military Road: Eastern side opposite 2016 works

Kilbrin – Replacement of sections in the vicinity of the church

Millstreet – Church Street: Replacement of sections

Mallow Town – Sections on Thomas Davis Street and individual isolated elements throughout town including Kennel Hill, Beecher Street, Summerhill & Forrest View.
In addition to the above works, Cork County Council has recently funded community organisations within villages to complete further footpath works in the following areas:

Glantane Community Council – Footpath towards School – €15,000

Liscaroll Community Council – Footpath in village centre – €10,000

Lombardstown Community Council – Footpath and kerbing in Gortroe village – €15,000

Twopothouse Development Association – Continue footpath towards Hazelwood – €10,000

Ballydaly Action 2000 Group – Replacement of footpath alongside Church – €10,000

Boherbue Community Development Association – Provision of footpath on western side of the village – €10,000

Kiskeam Development Association – Completion of footpath to New Shop Cross – €10,000

Rockchapel Community Council – Complete final phase of footpath to Stagmount/Glencarney Cross – €10,000

Dromahane Parents Association – Footpath towards school – €10,000
Cllr. O’ Shea added “These works will improve greatly the specific areas in our District. While there is many more towns and villages that could benefit from funding for the replacement of footpaths, this is a good start and it is my view and intention to seek more funding in the coming months to continue this vital work for the people living within the Kanturk/Mallow Municipal District”.
