O’Shea Welcomes Local Enterprise Week 2026 and Highlights Key Retail Event in Charleville

Five-day programme to support job growth, innovation and SMEs across Cork

Cork North West Fine Gael TD John Paul O’Shea has welcomed the return of Local Enterprise Week 2026 from March 2nd to 6th, describing it as a vital opportunity for Cork businesses to access practical supports, expert advice and new growth opportunities.

The week-long programme, organised by Cork County Council’s Local Enterprise Offices (LEOs), is aimed at entrepreneurs, start-ups and established small and medium enterprises, with a strong focus on innovation, sustainability and job creation.

Deputy O’Shea said “Local Enterprise Week continues to play a crucial role in strengthening our local economy by supporting small businesses, encouraging entrepreneurship and helping companies to scale and innovate. It provides real, practical supports that make a tangible difference on the ground.”

The initiative follows another strong year for LEO-supported businesses, with companies in Cork North & West and South Cork creating over 400 new jobs, bringing total employment in supported enterprises to more than 2,300. Cork’s Local Enterprise Offices ranked seventh nationally for job growth, highlighting the strength and resilience of the county’s SME sector.

Local Enterprise Week 2026 will feature a diverse mix of online and in-person events, giving business owners opportunities to learn from industry leaders, share experiences and build valuable networks.

A major highlight for North Cork will be the retail-focused event at the Charleville Park Hotel on March 3rd, which Deputy O’Shea has described as “a must-attend event for retailers and service businesses”.

The event will feature leading Irish business figures including Charlene Flanagan, co-founder of Ella & Jo, Evelyn Moynihan, CEO of Kilkenny Group, and business expert Stuart Nelson. Attendees will gain expert insights into current retail challenges, future trends, digitalisation and customer engagement, making it an essential session for businesses planning for growth in 2026.

Deputy O’Shea added “This event in Charleville is particularly important for retailers, hospitality providers and service businesses across North Cork and beyond. Hearing directly from some of Ireland’s most successful business leaders will give local enterprises the tools and confidence they need to compete and thrive.”

Other highlights include the “Innovate to Elevate” full-day event at the Inchydoney Hotel on March 5th, hosted by Bobby Kerr and featuring innovation specialist Brian Cahill and sustainability advisor Annie Duffy, along with contributions from Spice O’Life and West Cork Distillers.

A South Cork highlight will take place on March 4th at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Little Island with “Understand How AI Can Transform Your Business”, led by AI strategist Marie Toft, focusing on practical AI tools to improve efficiency and productivity.

Throughout the week, businesses will have access to workshops, masterclasses and networking events covering digital transformation, retail growth, financial planning, exporting and business development, as well as one-to-one clinics offering expert guidance.

Deputy O’Shea concluded “I strongly encourage businesses across Cork to take full advantage of Local Enterprise Week. Whether you are starting out, expanding, or adapting to new market conditions, the supports on offer can help you build a stronger, more sustainable business.”

Many events are free to attend, but early booking is advised. For full details and registration, visit www.localenterprise.ie and follow #LocalEnterprise on social media for updates.
