O’Shea Welcomes Planning Approval for Seven New Council Houses in Knocknagree Village

Cork North-West Fine Gael TD Hails Housing Development as Major Boost for Rural Community

Cork North West Fine Gael TD John Paul O’Shea has today welcomed the planning approval for seven new council houses in Knocknagree village, describing it as a significant milestone in addressing the housing needs of rural Cork communities.

The Fine Gael TD, who represents the area in Dáil Éireann, praised Cork County Council for their commitment to delivering much-needed social housing in the village, which will provide quality homes for local families and help sustain the vibrancy of this important North Cork community.

“This is fantastic news for Knocknagree and the surrounding area,” said Deputy O’Shea. “These seven new council houses represent more than just bricks and mortar – they represent hope, opportunity, and a future for families who want to put down roots in this beautiful part of North Cork. Having served on Cork County Council for 15 years before my election to the Dáil, I understand the challenges faced by rural communities in accessing housing. This housing project demonstrates our commitment to ensuring that people can live and thrive in the communities near them.”

The development comes as part of Cork County Council’s broader housing programme and will consist of 1 X 3 bed house, 2 X 2 bed houses and 4 X 1 bed houses. The new homes will be built to modern standards and will complement the existing village infrastructure.

Deputy O’Shea highlighted the importance of supporting rural settlements like Knocknagree, which has shown remarkable community spirit and resilience in recent years through various local development initiatives.

“Knocknagree is a community that has consistently shown its determination to thrive and grow,” he continued. “The local community development group and residents have worked tirelessly to enhance village amenities and attract new families to the area. These new council houses will build on that positive momentum. Every new family that calls Knocknagree home strengthens our community. These houses will help ensure our village school remains viable, support local businesses, and contribute to the overall sustainability of rural Cork,” Deputy O’Shea concluded.

Construction is expected to commence in the coming months, with the first families anticipated to move in during 2026.
