O’Shea Welcomes Second Garda Recruitment Campaign of 2025

O’Shea Welcomes Second Garda Recruitment Campaign of 2025

Cork North West Fine Gael TD, John Paul O’Shea, has welcomed the announcement by Minister for Justice, Home Affairs and Migration, Jim O’Callaghan TD, and Garda Commissioner Justin Kelly of a second Garda recruitment campaign for 2025.

The campaign, which opens on Thursday 18th September and runs for three weeks until 9th October, follows a highly successful recruitment drive earlier this year which attracted over 6,700 applicants.

Deputy O’Shea said “The safety and security of our communities here in Cork North West and right across the country must remain a top priority. Gardaí play a vital role in protecting our towns, villages, and rural areas, and it is encouraging to see continued momentum in recruitment.”

“The Government’s commitment to recruiting at least 5,000 Gardaí over the next five years is one I strongly support. With more Gardaí entering the College in Templemore and more recruits coming onto our streets, local communities will benefit from increased visibility and reassurance.”

Earlier this year, 423 new Gardaí have already attested, with further intakes planned before the end of 2025. Significant reforms have also been introduced to support recruitment, including raising the entry age to 50 and increasing the training allowance to €354 per week.

Deputy O’Shea added “The positive response to the February campaign shows the continued appeal of a career in An Garda Síochána. I encourage anyone from Cork North West and beyond who is interested in a rewarding and meaningful career to apply before 9 October.”
