O’ Shea Welcomes Significant Road Safety Funding for Cork North West Region

Cork North West Fine Gael TD John Paul O’Shea has welcomed the allocation of substantial funding under the 2026 Regional & Local Roads funding which will advance a number of key road safety projects across Cork North West constituency.

 

The approved funding includes:

  • €114,500 for the Renewal of Regulatory Road Markings at Junctions across the County

  • €72,500 for Climate Change Adaptation & Resilience Works (Improved Drainage) at Firville West

  • €80,000 for Climate Change Adaptation & Resilience Works (Improved Drainage) on the R581 at Newtwopothouse

  • €20,000 for Climate Change Adaptation & Resilience Works (Village Sump) at Crookstown

  • €40,000 for Climate Change Adaptation & Resilience Works (Improved Drainage) for Rockchapel village

  • €29,500 for Climate Change Adaptation & Resilience Works (Improved Drainage) at Newberry, Mallow

  • €60,000 for Climate Change Adaptation & Resilience Works (Improved Drainage) at Drumcummer/Coolacheesker

  • €25,000 for Climate Change Adaptation & Resilience Works (Improved Drainage) at Turrets, Charleville

  • €25,000 for Climate Change Adaptation & Resilience Works (Improved Drainage) at Park North/Carkar, Doneraile

  • €150,000 for Bridge Rehabilitation Works at Toons Bridge

  • €30,000 for Safety Improvement Works at O’Brien Street & Newmarket Road, Kanturk

  • €30,000 for Safety Improvement Works at Coolykereen, Kanturk

  • €10,000 for Safety Improvement Works south of Donoughmore at Ballycunningham

  • €60,000 for Safety Improvement Works at Kerryman’s Table, Millstreet

  • €28,000 for Safety Improvement Works at Kilmaclenine Cross

  • €18,000 for Safety Improvement Works at Gortroe, Lombardstown

  • €15,000 for Safety Improvement Works on the L1315 in Charleville

  • €50,000 for Specific Road Improvement works at Two Mile Cross Charleville (R515)

 

Speaking following confirmation of the allocations, Deputy O’Shea said “I am pleased to see so many of these important projects across Cork North West proceeding which will significantly enhance safety and visibility for motorists and pedestrians right across the region.”

 

Deputy O’Shea acknowledged the ongoing work of Cork County Council’s engineering teams in identifying priority locations.

 

“Road safety remains a top priority for me. These targeted interventions — from upgraded junction markings to localised safety works — will make a real difference in reducing risk and improving safety for all road users. I will continue to work to secure further investment for our communities.”

 

The projects form part of the wider 2026 Safety Improvement Works Programme aimed at enhancing road safety standards throughout the county.
