Cork County Council Municipal Districts Streetscape, Painting, Signage and Improvement Scheme 2018

Towns of Mallow & Buttevant to be the focus area of the Kanturk/Mallow Municipal District for 2018

Cork County Council’s Municipal Districts Streetscape, Painting, Signage and Improvement Scheme 2018 is open for applications.

Following a presentation to elected members for the Kanturk/Mallow Municipal District in recent days, it was agreed the following areas in the Towns of Mallow & Buttevant will be focused on:

Mallow:

·         Bridge Street, Mallow

·         West End, Mallow

·         Fitzpatrick’s Jewellers to Thomas Davis Plaza

·         Spa, Mallow

·         Laneways from Thomas Davis Street

Buttevant:

·         Main street, Buttevant

·         Laneways from Main Street, Buttevant

Applications for other streets within the towns of Buttevant & Mallow and indeed any applications within the District’s other three towns namely Kanturk, Newmarket & Millstreet will be accepted and processed on availability of funding.

North Cork Councillor John Paul O’ Shea spoke of the proactive approach set out in delivering this scheme for 2018. “The Municipal Districts Streetscape, Painting, Signage and Improvement Scheme 2018 will look at processes that will lead to an improvement in a town, or a particular part of it and what practical measures will assist in improving the built fabric of our towns. Kanturk/Mallow Municipal District is working with a colourist to develop a full colour scheme for the priority towns”.

One of the major changes to the Kanturk/Mallow Municipal District Streetscape, Painting, Signage and Improvement Scheme 2018 is that following feedback from applicants in 2017, the scheme has been modified to allow applicants apply for 100% funding for paint & materials only. A specific Arts Programme for the laneways in Mallow will also be developed during 2018 focusing on the unique heritage and history of the Town.

Cllr. O’ Shea added “This scheme will have a major beneficial effect on an area. Working in conjunction with the Council, property owners can reduce the cost of rejuvenating their property and help to improve the aspect of an entire street. The Council will also assist in ensuring that colour schemes for areas and individual properties are chosen correctly to provide for a vibrant but harmonious streetscape”.
