Over 5,300 homes in Cork getting permission in 2025 shows real progress – O’Shea

Over 5,300 homes in Cork getting permission in 2025 shows real progress – O’Shea

Over 5,300 new homes got planning permission in Cork throughout 2025 which shows measures to improve housing supply are working, Cork North West Fine Gael TD John Paul O’Shea has said.

Deputy O’Shea said: “These figures show thousands of new homes are moving through the pipeline in Cork. The key focus is now turning these permissions into homes on the ground as quickly as possible.

“Fine Gael’s priority has always been to get more homes built. Obtaining planning permission is a crucial step in the process. Government is committed to removing barriers to construction so these projects can move from planning to homes as quickly as possible.”

The figures from the CSO show there’s been a 7.9% increase in permissions granted nationally.

Deputy O’Shea said it’s encouraging to see the volume of housing activity in Cork:

“Increasing supply in our towns and villages will help to build stronger communities and is vital in tackling housing shortages in many areas.

“Fine Gael recognises there’s more work to do but these figures demonstrate the progress being made in Cork, and Government remains focused on increasing housing supply and delivering the homes people need.”
